Frequently asked questions
What to know before you begin therapy
Knowing my therapist better
Can I still take therapy if there is nothing wrong with me?
Yes absolutely! I don't believe in the idea that anyone coming to therapy has anything "wrong" with them. We are all learning how to live life better. Therapy helps you in giving the space and the support of a qualified professional to explore what is that "better" for you. Everyone has different difficulties and goals and all of them are welcome in therapy.
How long does therapy take?
Therapy is not a quick fix and a lot of times, there won't be major achievement points for you to realise this is when therapy has worked. It can take from as less as 8-10 sessions for you to feel you are satisfied with the results or it can be anywhere between several years where you continue therapy for changing life goals.
How often should I take therapy sessions?
To establish consistency and commit to the life goals that you wish to see through therapy, it is recommended to begin with weekly therapy sessions. However, this can vary based on your needs and resources. You can also take sessions once in 10 days or in a fortnight.
What if I have nothing to talk about in the first session?
Therapy at Unfiltered Self believes in making the space comfortable for you. You do not need to come prepared with a certain set of topics to talk about. The therapist is there to guide you with that. Moreover, talking is not the only thing we do in therapy. If there is a better way you are comfortable in expressing yourself, we make use of that instead of talking always.
Will I have to share all about my life in the first session?
No, we understand that you will be meeting a stranger and it is not possible to trust someone with your whole life the first time you meet them. You can take your time and decide how much you want to share with your therapist and slowly build on that when it feels right to you. We understand that calling it a safe space doesn't automatically make it one. We build it together as a relationship.
Will you tell others about what I talk about in therapy?
No, therapy is a strictly confidential space. This means that what we talk about in sessions is not shared with anyone, unless in special circumstances related to someone's life and safety. Even then, the therapist has a conversation with you before sharing any details to the concerned people.
What are the charges for therapy?
At Unfiltered Self we charge ₹1500 per session. We also have discounted package options at ₹5400 for 4 sessions for those who are ready to commit long term.
